“My Cell” Grown Mushroom Substrate Shoe Concept

Product Designer @23_heels recently took to Instagram to share their super imaginative “My Cell” shoe concept. The idea of the shoe being that you’d place a Mushroom substrate (combined with water & flour) into a moulded shoe casing, leave it to grow, and then “harvest” the shoe from the packaging.

The idea probably still needs some fleshing out, but the concept of giving the consumer their own moulded packaging and letting them grow the shoe themselves is very interesting. It’s essentially the Chia Pet of footwear. Would love to see this develop further in some shape or form in the near future.

Below you can see a break-down of the concept, from inspiration through to the final rendering.
