ALYX & Vibram’s New Sole Transforms Footwear

This past week I was invited to Vibram’s HQ in Milan, Italy. During my time there I got to chat with some of the innovation and design team, and thanks to Vibram designer, Andrea Rinaldi – who’s been working closely with Matthew Williams – I was able to see some early prototypes and current models of their removable overshoe/sole unit that they’ve been developing with ALYX’s, Matthew Williams.

Originally I posted ALYX’s FW19 collection to the ConceptKicks’ Instagram, which feature this particular sole unit – not knowing that the sole was also in fact, removable. I only realised the sole unit I’d been fawning over was also removable, when I got to their studio and saw it in action – it was that first “oh, shit..” moment I’ve had in quite a while.

The sole unit encapsulates their more classically inspired styles, like their Chelsea boot or Brogues, and morphs them into an entirely different silhouette. Going from traditional to contemporary in one seamless motion.

Below you can see some images of ALYX’s FW19 footwear collection, which feature Vibram’s removable “overshoe”.
