Women’s Onna-bugeisha Training Concept by Jason Raleigh

Inspired by Onna-bugeisha, the aim of designer, Jason Raleigh’s training concept was to create a versatile women’s training shoe that could easily transition from the college campus to the gym.

Onna-bugeisha was a type of female warrior belonging to the Japanese nobility. Many women engaged in battle, commonly alongside samurai men. They were members of the bushi (samurai) class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war. – Jason

Being inspired by feminine line and textures fused with characteristics reminiscent of the Onna-bugeisha and Samurai waraji footwear, the shoes feature a beautifully flowing outsole/midsole design and a super interesting bow-lace fastening. Both a simple, yet intricate design.
