West Coast Desert Duck Boot by Althea Fyfe

Rhode Island School of Design student, Althea Fyfe created these super interesting ‘West Coast Desert Duck Boot’s’ from veg tanned leather, canvas and rope. Althea wet moulded the leather upper to not only allow the leather to keep it’s shape, but to also allow for an easy break-in by the wearer. The leather also faces flesh side out so no lining is required, giving the boots a more minimal look while still remaining comfortable.

The classic style of duck boots is well known on the east coast, especially during the winter. The use of two materials in these boots gives each part a distinct function. I was fascinated by this and tried to imagine what it could look like in a desert environment instead of snowy winters. Over all the design was intended to be comfortable, durable, and easy to use.

The boots really do reflect the initial Yeezy x Star Wars inspiration. They also offer up an interesting play between the materials used, and the raw finish with the bellowed tongue and rope really works in it’s favour.

You can see some of the process the went into the making of the boots, below.
