Tips For Aspiring Shoe Designers | Tetsuya Iizuka – Buddy

From their recent feature on my homie, Brett Golliff, to this feature on Buddy‘s footwear designer + director, Tetsuya IizukaTHE HUNDREDS have really been doing an excellent job of tracking down some of the most intriguing creatives in their respective fields and giving us a small glimpse behind the curtain in their hectic lives.

One part of interviews that I always like to read personally, are the tips/advise creatives offer out. So below I’ve ganked the last part of the interview where Tetsuya offers up his personal advice to aspiring shoe designers (if you want to see the full interview, head here).

What are your tips for aspiring shoe designers?

I always give two lines of advice:

1) Act Immediately.

2) Have a Dream.

If you have an interesting design and a plan, please do it immediately.

If you act immediately with some success or failure, regardless, you’ll learn from it. Does not matter if it’s a small thing or big thing, just try it. I’ll never put off something for later myself.

And lastly, please have a dream. For me, my dream is making money by making shoes, bags, and clothing to give my family a happiness. If you have a dream of what you want to do in life, even when you might get discouraged, you’ll try harder and move forward.
