The Design Of The Nike Zoom Traverse

Senior Footwear Designer on the Core Performance team at Nike, Chris Page recently shared some of the initial design work of Nike’s “Zoom Traverse”, a style that features both FlyEase, and Zoom at the forefoot.

“Zoom Traverse was done while I was part of the Nike Kids team. Kids are experimenting and developing their own style super young and we wanted to reflect that, and to support that confidence with newness. The idea was to create a future-facing silhouette that we could only get with the newest FlyEase Lacing system – which is all about opening and closing the shoe. The design centered on an expression of opening (the shoe) really wide. Without traditional laces the proportions could shift to exaggerate the super comfy tongue that would hinge open.Great multidisciplinary team, including some amazing work with our development partners.” – Chris Page

Below you can see some of the initial sketches, as well as a look at the final silhouette.
