The Design Of Hoka One One’s TenNine

Hoka One One’s Director of Design for Footwear, Matthew Head recently reached out to share some of his initial designs / renderings of Hoka’s latest running style, the super chunky, “TenNine” silhouette.

“It seem’s a bit ridiculous posting about shoes at the moment but I’m proud to work for a brand that helps people to move and movement has always been super important to me in keeping myself level through the ups and the downs. I’m sure that’s the case for many at the moment.

So, just before this all happened, we released a REALLY BIG shoe, the TenNine and it definitely provoked a response! Having a little more time recently has allowed me to dig through the reviews and comments and I’ve really enjoyed myself. Positive or negative, it doesn’t matter, people being engaged and expressing themselves is great to see. HOKA was born out of being different so there’s no point in changing that now. We’ll continue to be bold in service of delivering the best ride out there.

Thanks to everyone that was part of this project including:

  • Andrew Conley and Jared Smith for PLMing
  • Alice Lin for developing
  • The Innovation team for the original seed” – Matthew Head

You can see some of Matt’s renderings, as well as a look at the final silhouette, specifically designed for trail running with it’s ultra volumous sole tooling, below.
