Just found this incredibly interesting, on-going sustainable sneaker project by designer, Kishan Patel –
‘Initially I competed in a Pensole competition, do design a sustainable shoe for the future. I came across the concept when playing with origami techniques, and looking at replacing the upper with a recyclable material. The main vision is to create most of the upper with treated cardboard to cope with weather conditions, also scored in the correct areas so that you gain all of the movement capabilities as a canvas or leather upper. Further development has pushed me to look at different techniques to building a shoe upper, rather than looking at having one piece made from card, instead looking at how other shoes are built up with layers. Also looking into removing the glue from the manufacturing process to try make it environmentally friendly’. – Kishan
I’m really looking forward to seeing how this project develops, check out more of Kishan’s project after the jump.
