Tasked with creating ‘a show stopping, one-of-a-kind men’s runway shoe, analogous to the women’s art shoes of the runway’, Jon Kosenick went to work on creating these beautifully designed, Rokai, Men’s Couture Flat shoes.
‘Women’s shoe’s at a fashion week level come in every imaginable silhouette, colour and material. Nothing is too crazy, too avant garde, too outlandish. Men’s shoes however, very rarely break tradition: Black leather, traditional cute (loafer, brogue, wingtip, etc). And on the rare occasion they do, it isn’t by a large degree. This shoe should break out of the conformity and tradtion of men’s footwear: not subtle, not quiet, and far from familiar.’
What Jon came up with aimed to re-define ‘Rococo elements through a modern design lens, blending current ideals of simplicity, stark geometry and bold colour blocking with the powerful ornamentation, gold finish and asymmetry of the 18th century’.
