Reebok COMMU TR | Neale Barnes

Recent Savannah College of Art and Design graduate, Neale Barnes is a current footwear Design Apprentice (Training & CrossFit) at Reebok. One of the projects he’s worked on during his time with the company, is this Rebook COMMU TR, a concept that ‘aims to facilitate the rugged-sleak lifestyle of the urban rebellion.’

“COMMU TR is a personal project pursued during my time as a footwear design apprentice at Reebok for Training and CrossFit. In my first 6 months at the company I was exposed to years of learnings from the brands successful training footwear line. My goal was to take these learnings and strip them down to blend deconstruction with tough fitness with an urban inspired vibe.” – Neale Barnes

The COMMU TR was designed with the intent of being as fast, rugged and unpredictable as it’s consumer. Featuring a sock liner that extents up the Achilles for an enhanced fit, a combination of stretch kevlar and mono mesh for a light weight and snug fit, and an outsole that features multi-directional flex grooves and 3M tech to create a flashing effect while running.

Overall the shoe came out great, with a super interesting silhouette. The hidden lacing and HF Welding really help to give the shoe a clean, sleek and lightweight look. The ruggedness of the mesh and the outsole also help to aid in the concept’s aim of combining the sleek-rugged combination that was originally intended.
