I first came across this project when looking through the registrants for the Sneaker2030 competition I recently judged, and I have to say I was very impressed and I think I can safely say it’s one of the favorites to win. What I really like about the project aside from the beautiful presentation and 3D renders, is the uniqueness of the idea behind the concept. Designer, Kevin Hoffman has embedded neural processing units & sensors into the sole of the shoe that learn the athletes movements over time and then allow the shoe to predict them. He’s also weaved self-sustaining piezoelectric fibres into the upper of the shoe that can alter it’s density to also react to the athletes movements. The overall intention being to help to prevent injury and allowing for greater agility and movement.
