Designer, Ethan Lee always goes the extra mile when it comes to displaying the full story behind his concepts. From start to finish (and even looking to the future), Ethan has managed to display the full process behind his concept, “Titan Division” in a super clean and easy to follow manner.
The Nike Titan Division “is a provocative research program and incubator for future Nike signature athletes. It is a platform to showcase advanced materials and processes that are not ready for mass production. Equal parts evolution and disruption, there is a need for deeper levels of context. Playbooks, play style, stats and tendencies are all tracked and filtered into products that transform over the course of the season. This dynamic approach is a commitment to design that accounts for the unpredictable.” – Ethan
From spider silk to sea cucumbers and nanocomposites, Ethan looked at a slew of super interesting possible uses for new materials and tried to convert those into a signature shoe for Pacer guard, Paul George.
Ethan ended up with a flyweave upper made with bio-synthetic spider silk and treated with piezochromic dye that responds to pressure. There are also hieroglyphs (that have been translated into binary code) embedded into the upper that would track all the relevent stats used to tune the weave. The sole features a mixture of nanocompositie cushioning with equally spaced, 3D printed bands to give Paul a unique mixture of court feel and traction.
