Colour design is an aspect of any wearable product that probably doesn’t get as much credit as it should. Picking the right patterns, materials and colours can often be the difference in whether or not you keep demand in your product, create new trends and generally keep things a bit exciting. Do it wrong and it can have the total opposite effect.
I’m always intrigued by what David Whetstone is up to, whether it’s his little sole switch ups and Margiela inspired shoe painting, he’s always up to something super interesting –
‘While contracting with Nike Sportswear’s color team in Global Football (off-pitch soccer), I worked with our category design director to create a quickstrike energy packs. We identified appropriate casual models, and I applied color inspired by performance football (soccer) boots for both Spring/Summer 13 and Fall/Winter 13.’ – David
I’m reminded by a quote I once saw – “You can only as good as your taste”, something which David seems to have in bucket loads.
