I’ve teamed up with SLEM once again to offer a short course on conceptualising and creating your own footwear brand. Classes will take place in China, at Guangzhou’s material market, an international footwear hub where thousands of suppliers offer materials, lasts, outsoles, accessories and production facilities. The course focuses on building your brand in a resourceful, affordable and sustainable way, using what is already available.
“In this week-long workshop participants get to experience an accelerated version of what usually takes much more time and effort: the setting up and starting of your footwear brand. Learn from Mr. Bailey, founder of Concept Kicks, how to effectively create your footwear line as a starting designer.
The workshop has one main objective: creating a footwear brand. To achieve this, on Monday you will start with finding inspiration. Inspiration that you will translate in your own way into your concept and your storyline.
The following day begins with sketching and line building, along with incorporating aesthetics and functions to create a unique brand.
The next two days include topics like: sourcing, material selection, production processes and sustainability issues to ensure that your products are aligned with the brand’s values and view points.
By Friday you will have learned how to create a line, have a collection and will know what the next steps are to bring it to market.” – SLEM
