Having Recently graduated from the ArtEZ Institute of Arts in Arnhem, Mahsa Kordbacheh just shot me a message detailing some of her graduate collection, entitled “Expand & Explore”. Needless to say, I was pretty amazed by what I saw.
“The legibility and transparency of my graduation collection emerged from my fascination for minimal adjustments. How can a design process allow trough limitation and minimal interventions, the most innovative and maximum opportunity and application? The complexity results from minimal interference. By one action all the different compounds of the shoe are connected.
Because of the use of different materials with different properties, different reactions occur, thus shaping the shoe in its own unique shape by using standard machines from the industry and innovated the use to a new production method.” – Masha
The first four styles below were created with a heat transfer press, with the following styles using a “seal machine” (which connects the materials through electricity) and each of the soles were attached with a vacuum shaper.
The depth of materials, execution of the final samples and the overall creativity on this collection is pretty overwhelming. I can only imagine that these images will be present on quite a few peoples/brands inspiration boards for the coming seasons.
You can see all of Mahsa’s incredible collection, below.
