Savvy designer, David Whetstone is no stranger to ConceptKicks, I’ve been sharing his incredibly clean and thought provoking concepts for quite some time, so it was music to my ears when I heard he was planning on submitting somthing for the ConceptSurgeon competition.
“The competition required three ingredients; Hender Scheme craft, ACRONYM technical language, and the adidas EQT Boost sole. I also wanted to incorporate The Shoe Surgeon’s iconic use of python leather as he’d be the maker. The upper is inspired by Hender Scheme’s reduced approach. Heavy leather and reversed leather (for a suede side) overlays keep the upper feeling raw. Soft leather lining finishes off the crafter approach. ACRONYM inspired technical carry straps run down the center of the shoe in top view and are snapped back on themselves through an internal looper. They can unsnap and connect to one another for carrying. “Loose” side straps are also inspired by ACRONYM and juxtapose shiny nylon against leather. The upper sits on the required EQT boost sole unit. A black python leather back tab nods to the The Shoe Surgeon’s most iconic material choice. Finally laser etched ConceptKicks logo is added to the tongue.” – David
