Christoph Döttelmayer – Mammut T Aenergy GTX (Updated)

Here’s a great project from Christoph Döttelmayer showcasing the development of his Mammut T Aenergy GTX boot concept.

[This was the] first project of my Mammut internship 2011 in Switzerland.

[It is a] light weight hiking boot inspired my Mammut´s ski touring outfit and it´s best selling shoe the Teton GTX.
I was involved in all product stages, from design, color-ways, sampling to testing.

The T Aenergy GTX, makes use of significantly more technological materials making it both lighter and more durable. The comfortable fit remains the same with the addition of high-quality hybrid shell material. The design is a composition of soft interior and robust exterior materials. As a result, the shoe is only hard where it needs to be and can easily adapt to the anatomy of the foot. An EVA wedge with the integrated Mammut Rolling Concept in the sole provides for a controlled and gentle stepping motion of the foot. The proven Base Fit lacing system ensures that the shoe is securely attached to the foot.
In addition, the shoe now features individually cushioning Memo Foam, the scale-like designed Vibram® Scale sole, protective rubber tips and the functional Gore-Tex Performance Comfort Footwear Membrane. The latter provides an improved climate in the shoe without affecting the waterproofness of the show.
The Mammut T Aenergy GTX is available for men and women and all these features make this the perfect boot for backpacking and walking.’ – Christoph

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I´m a 25 year old Austrian designer student and currently working on my diploma at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Next January I will be finished and look forward to work in the footwear industry.

Inspired by one of the all time greatest, Michael Jordan, the game of basketball guided me all my life and opened my way into footwear design and therefor studying Industrial Design. Over the past years I learned specific skills about footwear, industrial and graphic design. My methods launch from research and my inner feelings and the passion I receive from objects and sports. I make myself transport these feelings and try to understand what the objects ask me and where I want them to go. A method that starts spiritual and then rational as I want my objects to be deliver the same emotions.

Stay tuned for my website relaunch later this week, which includes some more Mammut designs.

What inspired this concept?

The inspiration came from the fact that now a days everything is just going faster.
As technologies improve, we become better and faster in the things we do.
Our daily routine has become faster, we live faster and we run faster. There are more people now that use hiking to stay fit or get in shape. Not just to enjoy nature, which is the great side-effect.

Mammut created a new outfit for fast ski touring, which is becoming more and more popular in Mid-Europe and they wanted a hiking boot that would have the same aspects. The shoe is also an update from one of their best selling shoes, that´s why some lines reflect form the older version.

What is your favorite feature?

My favorite feature is the single-shell construction. the whole upper is made from one piece. Only the heel trim and the molds are added. This keeps the weight down and provides a great feeling and a perfect fit.
