While at Capsule in Berlin earlier this year, trawling through a mass of brands, I had the pleasure of bumping into Stefan Rechsteiner & Patrick Rüegg, the masterminds of a super refreshing, sustainably minded footwear brand called, V E L T.
Based in Berlin, the two not only design their collection themselves, but they have also created their own footwear manufacturing facility in Switzerland. I plan on reaching out to them to get a little more insight into the brand and where they’re heading, but for now, if you haven’t heard of them already, here’s a little info about how the brand got started, as well as a few beauty shots of their beautifully clean, award winning footwear.
“We are designers and creators, idealists and urbanists, from Switzerland and Berlin – and we love shoes.
When we were younger, we discovered that the shoes we loved were Nike Air Max, Converse Chucks and Adidas Originals. When we were older, we discovered that the shoes we loved were nowhere. Unless we wanted sneakers, they were too boring, too traditional, too elitist, too ‘not our style’. So we decided to make the shoes we wanted to wear.
Ever since, we’ve conceived shoes in our Berlin studio to which a Swiss factory has given birth: shoes for connoisseurs; shoes as special as the people that wear them: shoes built from Europe’s best leather, with a responsible attitude to the environment and an unconditional dedication to exciting, previously un-imagined design. They’re the qualities that earned our debut collection the Swiss Federal Design Prize.” – V E L T
