Behind the Manufacturing of the New Balance 1978 (Sneakers Mag)

For their most recent “Future” issue, (featuring an article from yours truly) Sneakers Magazine was invited to one of New Balance’s domestic factories in Norridgewock, Maine to check out the manufacturing processes of the New Balance 1978.

Head to Sneakers Mag’s blog here for a snippet of the article, in which they chat with Brendan Melly, Director of Manufacturing, about what goes into producing a pair of 1978’s, how much more minimal the new style is (it’s only comprised of 9 components) and how NB is setting the bench-mark high for domestic footwear production in the US. They also delved into the 1978’s innovative new sole construction, developed in collaboration with Vibram.
