London based materials researcher, Alice Potts created an incredible collection of footwear for her Royal College of Art graduate show.
The collection, entitled Perspire utilises sweat secretion and turns it into unique crystals, which are grown directly onto the shoes.
“In the future our bodies will be able to secrete their own accessories. This collection specifically focuses on the secretion of sweat. Persperation is a normal and healthy bodily function, where our bodies generate between 10-14 litres of sweat a day. Creating a process that can materialize this salty solution to create sweat crystals. Each crystal is a unique personalization of our own biology. Encapsulating our health, well being and identity.” – Alice
Alice went even further into the potential future of sweat crystal infused products in the future –
“Every crystal is unique. Our bodies sweat different amounts depending on the amount of sweat glands. With most sweat being produced on either the hands or feet. How could this effect the size and growth. With males sweating more then women, would there be an obvious difference between size or structure.” – Alice
