A super interesting thesis project from designer, Yuchung Chen, the ADACTUS RUNNER features a very unique lacing system that allows you to tighten your shoe from the heel. Featuring what I assume is somewhat of a locking mechanism on either side of the collar (similar to a BOA closure) that the laces or cable would feed through and lock down on once pulled. With the laces weaving through the upper and threading through a mesh that covers the front of the shoe, I can only imagine that when pulled tight, the fit would be pretty snug. The ergonomics of it alone are really interesting. You can see from the feature image above just how easily this would work with the users body mechanics; simply lift up your heel, reach down and pull tight. Brilliant.

Yuchung went the extra mile and actually created a (seemingly) functional prototype, if not functional it at least looks very legit. I think it’s safe to assume he got a good grade on this project. Check out his super inspiring work, below.
