OWN (Only Whats Necessary) is an innovative new footwear brand for mountain bikers. Their first offering, the FR-01, features a custom Vibram outsole, a Kevlar and TPU Film welded outer upper and an interchangeable waterproof or air mesh inner Bootie, with ergonomic footbed and D30 Decell foam.
“The FR-01 is for flat pedal mountain bikers in the gravity and all mountain disciplines. Created to address the real life needs and requirements of riders in all conditions by delivering a totally considered solution, the FR-01 combines performance and functionality in the key areas of Durability, Protection, Comfort and Modular Design.” – OWN
I won’t get into too much of the specifics yet, as I’m planning on reaching out to Dan Hutchinson and Warren Bosomworth (the minds behind OWN) to get more insight behind the brand, but I wanted to share a quick look at some of the development of their first shoe. In a few beautifully curated images (from their IG account) we get to see a glimpse into some of the many, many hours that have gone into creating the FR-01 (apparently it’s taken 3 years to develop and test). The shoe’s came out extremely sleek looking, as welded uppers often do, and an impressive amount of thought has gone into the functionality as well as the aesthetic of the shoe.
I’m looking forward to seeing where they take the brand in the future, and hopefully getting some insight from them soon. For now though you can check out some of their journey so far, below.
