A Look at the Design Process of the Marc Newson x Nike VaporMax (Video)

Famed Industrial Designer and Australian looking Tony Stark, Marc Newson broke down some of the initial design process behind his recent collaboration with nike, the Marc Newson x NikeLab Air VaporMax.

Combining the super techy VaporMax outsole with more of a handcrafted feel with cross stitching and leather, Newson played with the idea that knitting in this context is very contemporary, yet at the same time is something your grandmother can do. “There’s this wonderful cultural juxtaposition of skills and things going on… It’s wonderful to be given the opportunity to work with all of these incredible new technologies and materials” said Newson.

I have to admit I’m still on the fence with this particular shoe, there are things I love, and yet there’s also something unfamiliar that is a little uncomfortable…which is brilliant, it just means Marc and Nike may be onto something special here.
