A Look At Nike’s N. 354 ‘Air Zoom Type’

Part of Nike’s N. 354 sub-brand, the Nike Air Zoom Type takes its shape from an initial prototype for the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% and re-imagines it as more of a lifestyle, daily wear sneaker.

“We took the original prototype, scanned it and then reverse-engineered it for daily wear,” said Lee Gibson, Nike Design Lead. “For example, the TPU plate provides some of the modulation of the Alphafly’s carbon [fiber] plate, but doesn’t give as aggressive of a rocking sensation.”

The design boasts a thick double-stacked EVA foam midsole with two Zoom Air pucks in the forefoot and a full-length TPU shank. The shoe’s upper ‘details also relay the creative process in the finished product. The hand of the designer is apparent — seen in elements like the N.354 logo treatment and overt stitching. And, with a subtle DNA touch, the breathable tongue is nod to another pioneering Nike running shoe, the Lunar Racer.’ (Nike.com)

Below you can see some of the initial prototypes, as well as a look at the final model.
