Digital Progression, a Bournmouth based production studio specialising in 3D/CGI, recently creates a series of 3D rendered concepts, created in Autodesk 3ds Max, for Borough shoes.
Generally 3D lends itself incredibly well to footwear in terms of creating sole units and early proof of concept test samples, but when it comes to 3D rendering for showcasing beauty shots of the final concept, it’s incredibly hard to do. The skill level needed to create a believable 3D renderd shoe is insanely high due to the many componants that shoes have; from the sole unit, which would generally require more hard modelling skills, to an upper that would be better off being built in a soft one, and then there are a plethora of details that have to be nailed to make a believable render.
Granted, it looks like these shoes utilise a moulded upper, which make it slightly easier to pull off, but these renders are still incredibly well executed.
